I was deeply saddened to hear the other day of the passing of legendary Uriah Heep member Ken Hensley. As you all must surely know by now, Ken was in the band for 10 years or so and wrote most of their best known songs as well as played a mean Hammond and slide guitar. The guy was a huge influence on me. The song No More from his third solo album Free Spirit is simply brilliant.

Uriah Heep‘s first three albums are the key ones for me – I mean, what about the title track of Salisbury? Incredible song. Never forget hearing Very ‘Eavy, Very ‘Umble for the first time and then Look at Yourself straight after that. I have every single Uriah Heep album (even the rubbish ones!), all the b-sides, unreleased tracks, live albums and all of Ken’s solo work. Yes, I’m that much of a fan! I must be one of the few people on earth that really enjoys the much-maligned Fallen Angel album, too!

Right now, I am grabbing a fresh coffee and am about to take the mighty Salisbury out for another spin!
