This is, of course, billed as BJH featuring Les Holroyd! Regardless, this is still a solo effort from Les, accompanied by BJH drummer Mel Pritchard. Now, Les always wrote the more poppy/contemporary sounding numbers in the band, getting ever mellower as the years rolled by. There are 11 songs on this album, including a rather interesting acoustic based version of ‘Life Is For Living’.
The album has pop, rock and orchestral moments on it – all topped off with Les’s clear and precise singing. But is it any good? Yes and no! If Les hadn’t been in BJH and you picked this album up, you would find it unremarkably OK. And that’s what it is – on OK album from a major songwriting talent. As BJH are my favourite band of all time, it pains me to say it, but there you go!
If you like the ‘Ring Of Changes’ sound of BJH then this album will float your boat. If you don’t, file under nice!
