Blackmore's Night, Grand Opera House York, 12/06/2007
 (N/A)

Did any of you attend this gig? I thought it was fabulous. I like Blackmores's Night music very much, so seeing the band and the great man himself in concert was quite a treat. Support came from an Eastern European band called Gothien, who were even more medieval than the main act! They were very good and went down amazingly well in the packed theatre. Incidentally, the Grand Opera House is a great venue: Victorian, I think, not too big and not too small, with good seats and opera glasses!

The main act played for around 2 hours. Mostly, it was the choice cuts from their albums with a nice cover of Soldier of Fortune and Child in Time. Candice doesn't seem to be comfortable with the major Gillan-esque wailing, so their two twin backing singers sung those parts with considerable gusto..! Blackmore has lost none of his guitar prowess and, to my ears, seemed better than ever - his acoustic playing was superlative. A few drunks kept shouting out comments re Deep Purple etc which was annoying. For the encores, out came the strat and the place erupted with some kick-ass fret fireworks. Marvellous stuff.
