Living la Vida Geeka!
Author: Steven McCabe Created: 18/05/2007
What is this 'Living la Vida Geeka' all about? Well, this section of the blog is all about geeky stuff, for want of a better phrase. It's about computer software, hardware, programming. You know, geeky stuff!

Corsair FlashVoyager GT - RIP
By Steven McCabe on 18/06/2008

After 11 months of sterling work, my super-duper-take-anywhere USB dongle has, I'm afraid, died the death. One day, it was working fine, the next, nothing but delayed write errors and all manner of shenanigans

I tried it on 3 different machines: XP (2 machines) and Vista with the same result. The auto run will flash through all the files, but once you click on the drive to look at the contents, it shows up as being a blank disk and would I like to format it!

Grrr!

Now, this dongle contains all my emails, documents, web design work, programming code, photos and even some work stuff (!), so losing all that data was not an option. However, I had backed it up religiously, so I knew I had a back-up approx 4 days old, leaving only the most recent work to recover. Trouble is, because the ...

Elonex One
By Steven McCabe on 12/03/2008

Have you heard of the Asus EEPC? This is a little 7" sub-notebook computer powered by Linux and available for around £200, if you can find one!

Well, I couldn't resist it so have placed my order.

Now, I already have a decent notebook, but, frankly, can't be bothered carting it around with me everyday. However, I always have a book with me, so adding a PC the size of a book is not big deal. So, with this machine I will be able to surf the net, write letters, emails etc and . . . . read PDF books / manuals!

As you can no doubt infer from my witterings, I am quite looking forward to receiving the machine, though I daresay it ...

Corsair and the FlashVoyagerGT!
By Steven McCabe on 18/07/2007

I recently bought a Corsair FlashVoyagerGT USB drive: a whopping 8 gig of space. Anyway, this is a fabulous unit and the quickest USB drive I have ever come across. It's perfect for the amount of work I do between different computers. It's fully loaded with portable apps and some that are not really portable apps but work anyway!

Last week, however, I lost the cap. A quick email to corsair and the upshot is that they are going to send a new cap totally free of any charges. I offered to pay, too. This is great customer service, so huge thank you Corsair!
